University as a Facilitator for Community-Based Sustainable Solutions to Demographic Challenges in South Western Uganda (UCoBS)
The UCoBS project stands as a transformative 10-year initiative, fueled by collaboration between Mbarara University of Science and Technology (MUST), Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB), and Flemish Higher Education Institutions, generously funded by the Flemish Interuniversity Council (VLIR-UOS).
This visionary project centers on addressing the multifaceted demographic challenges faced by the Most At-Risk Populations (MARPs) in South Western Uganda. Spanning six pivotal sub-projects, UCoBS revolves around pivotal themes: conservation practices, climate adaptation for food production, accessible energy technologies, reproductive health rights, youth employability through skill-building, and institutional-community ICT capacity enhancement.
With a focus on reciprocal models, participatory approaches, innovation, multidisciplinary collaborations, and gender-based methodologies, UCoBS strives to revolutionize livelihoods. Through research, knowledge dissemination, capacity building, and robust community outreach, this initiative aims to create sustainable solutions and elevate the lives of South Western Uganda’s most vulnerable populations.
Join us on this transformative journey as we work hand-in-hand with local communities, leveraging technology, expertise, and a holistic approach to foster positive and lasting change. Together, we aim to build a brighter and more sustainable future for South Western Uganda.
