PhD Scholar

My name is Immaculate Nakazibwe. I am 29 years old and a teacher by profession, an assistant lecturer in the Department of Biology in the Faculty of Science at Mbarara University of Science and Technology.

I hold a Bachelor of Science with Education [2016] and a Masters in Biology—Natural Resources Management and Conservation [2019] from Mbarara University of Science and Technology. As a PhD student on sub-project 2, my study explores the agronomic status of finger millet production amidst climate variability and its yield response to different soil fertility amendments at the field scale in south-western Uganda.

I will undertake this study under the supervision of Prof. Roel Merckx (KU Leuven University), Assoc. Prof. Grace R. Kagoro and Dr. Raphael Wangalwa (Mbarara University of Science and Technology), and Dr. Robert Muzira (Mbarara Zonal Agricultural Research Development Institute).

My study will suggest how smallholder farmers can increase food production through cheaper and environmentally friendly soil nutrient replenishment measures, which in the long run will lead to sustainable food production and improve smallholder farmers’ income since many of them majorly derive their livelihood from farming.
