He holds a PhD in Geography, a Master of Science in Botany, and a Postgraduate Diploma in Education. Has been involved in training and mentoring teachers and researchers for the last 24 years. Prof. Lejju has held leadership roles for 20 years. He is the former dean of the Faculty of Science and chairperson of the Deans’ Committee and has served on different committees at Mbarara University of Science and Technology (MUST) as a board member of the Centre for Innovations and Technology Transfer (CITT), a member of the Senate, a member of the Staff Development Committee, and a member of the top management of the university, among others.

He has also served on various international committees, such as secretary general for the International Union of Quaternary Research Association (INQUA, est. 1828), the board of the International Science Foundation (IFS), the Future Earth-Africa Chapter, and the board member for the East African Journal for Science, Technology, and Innovation, among others.

Prof Lejju was the principal investigator of the Millennium Science Initiative (MSI) Project at MUST and has collaborative research projects with regional and international universities. His areas of research interest are climate and environmental change, ecology, palaeobotany, archaeobotany, palynology, forest resources management, and island biogeography.
