In July 2025, four students from Mbarara University of Science and Technology (MUST) teamed up with four students from Ghent University, alongside two assistant technicians, for an impactful internship with Humasol in Ntungamo. The goal was to enhance local infrastructure through sustainable engineering solutions.
Upon
arrival, they engaged in a comprehensive meeting with the KIYODEL team and an engineer, diving deep into project specifics and conducting a thorough site tour. Together, they strategized the implementation of full conduit piping, opting for a robust solution over partial measures.
The following days were a flurry of activity. They meticulously drafted building schematics, detailing socket and switch placements with precision. They also designed plumbing layouts and prepared detailed quotations for pipework, ensuring every aspect of the project was meticulously planned.
Timber was laid strategically to support distribution pipes across the building, facilitating efficient conduit piping installation.
With phase one materials in hand, they commenced wiring and fitting, gearing up for the next stages of the project.
Looking ahead, their agenda includes critical tasks like earthing, lightning protection, panel mounting, and finalizing the power room setup. Each step is a testament to their dedication to sustainable engineering practices and community empowerment.
Stay tuned as these bright minds continue to make a lasting impact in Ntungamo, embodying the spirit of collaboration and innovation in engineering.
