Runyankore is primarily spoken in the Ankole region of southwestern Uganda, while Rukiga is spoken in the Kigezi region. It is a Bantu language with origins tracing back to the proto-bantu language, the ancestral language of all Bantu languages. Specifically, Runyankore is closely related to Rukiga, and the two are often considered as one language, “Runyankore-Rukiga.” As a way of promoting internationalization, Mbarara University of Science and Technology, through Subproject 6, saw the need to empower its students to learn the language, making communication easy and allowing all students to feel at home away from their home.
