University as Facilitator Community Based Sustainable Solutions to Demographic Challenges in South Western Uganda

Strengthening Global Ties for Local Impact: MUST’s Annual Partnership Visit to Belgium;

As part of our commitment to driving community-based sustainable solutions to demographic challenges in Southwestern Uganda, Mbarara University of Science & Technology (MUST) embarked on its annual partnership visit to Belgium under the MUST IUC-UCoBS initiative. The delegation was led by Prof. Charles T. Kazooba, local coordinator of UCoBS, accompanied by his deputy, Dr. Medard Twinamatsiko, international relations officer at MUST; Sheila Niinye Twinamatsiko; and Lydia Asiimwe, the project manager, among other key team members .
This strategic visit is more than a tradition for innovation, collaboration, and transformation. The MUST delegation engaged with key partners, including VLIRUOS, Vrije Universiteit Brussel, and Ghent University, among others, to exchange cutting-edge ideas, share best practices, and explore innovative research methodologies.

Beyond academic dialogue, the visit fosters deeper cultural understanding and mutual appreciation while reinforcing institutional ties that pave the way for long-term collaboration. It also opens doors to joint research opportunities, academic exchanges, and capacity-building programs that empower both staff and students.
This international engagement strengthens the university’s role as a regional hub for sustainable development, ensuring that global partnerships translate into real, local impact.
