ICT Bootcamps: Empowering the Next Generation

In July 2025, Sub-Project 6 extended its outreach beyond the university to inspire and equip secondary school learners with practical ICT skills. Two back-to-back ICT Bootcamps were conducted:

  • On 25th July 2025 at Creamland Secondary School, Ruti, Mbarara City

  • On 27th July 2025 at St. Bridget Girls’ Secondary School

The bootcamps were designed with a strong focus on gender inclusivity in ICT, ensuring that both boys and girls particularly young women could gain confidence and skills to thrive in the digital era.

Hands-On Skills for Real Impact

Across both schools, students participated enthusiastically in interactive sessions that introduced them to essential digital competencies, including:

Software installations – learning how to set up applications and troubleshoot installation challenges.

Business application tools – using spreadsheets, word processors, and presentation software to support academic and entrepreneurial activities.

Computer repair and maintenance – gaining practical skills in identifying and fixing basic hardware and software problems.

Graphic design and photography – exploring creativity with digital tools to produce designs and capture professional images.

E-learning platforms – navigating online resources for self-study and collaborative learning.

These sessions not only provided technical know-how but also boosted the students’ confidence to engage with technology as a tool for learning, innovation, and problem-solving.

Inspiring the Future of ICT

The excitement among the learners was palpable, with many expressing interest in pursuing careers in technology-related fields. For girls, in particular, the bootcamps served as a powerful reminder that ICT is not a male-dominated space but a field where they too can excel and lead.

Appreciation and Commitment

The success of these bootcamps was made possible by the dedication of our team members and collaborators, whose expertise and passion continue to drive digital transformation.

Through initiatives like these, Sub-Project 6 reaffirms its mission: to bridge the digital divide, foster inclusivity, and build ICT capacity that empowers both institutions and communities for sustainable development.
