Adolescents and young people in Uganda continue to face major Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR) challenges, including teenage pregnancy, unsafe abortion, sexually transmitted infections (STIs), HIV/AIDS, gender-based violence (GBV), and limited access to youth-friendly healthcare services.
In southwestern Uganda, these challenges are worsened by stigma, poverty, cultural beliefs, lack of privacy in health facilities, and inadequate adolescent-centered care.
As a leading health training institution, Mbarara University of Science and Technology plays an important role in preparing healthcare professionals to improve adolescent SRHR outcomes through research, community engagement, and youth-friendly service delivery.
