Between 10th and 14th November 2025, the MUST IUC-UCoBS Project, through Subproject 3 in synergy with Subproject 1, delivered a major milestone in improving access to renewable energy within the Bwindi Batwa community. A total of 20 solar kits were installed and handed over to 20 households under the Bwindi Batwa Community Development Association (BBCDA), marking a significant step in enhancing energy access, safety, and quality of life.

Each household received a complete solar package consisting of 20 solar panels, 20 batteries, 20 charge controllers, 40 switches, 87 bulbs
and additional installation accessories.
Notably, the impact extended beyond the initial target: about 10 additional homes were also able to access lighting by connecting to neighboring solar systems, an inspiring demonstration of community togetherness and shared benefit.
The handover ceremony was led by Dr. Medard Twinamatsiko, local coordinator and team leader of Subproject 1, alongside Dr. Imelda Kemeza, deputy team leader of Subproject 3. The event was witnessed by local leaders, including the LC1 chairpersons, the Deputy Mayor of Rubuguri Town Council, and the Director of Nkuringo Cultural Centre, among BBCDA committee members and project assistants. Leaders emphasized the importance of safeguarding the solar systems, particularly the security of batteries and panels, to ensure long-term sustainability and attract future support.

Beyond installation, the project team trained beneficiaries on essential maintenance practices, safe usage, and basic troubleshooting. These skills are expected to empower households to manage their systems effectively and ensure continued functionality.
The successful installation brought a deep sense of fulfillment to the project team, knowing that this intervention addresses a critical energy need and enhances the everyday lives of the Batwa community by supporting education, security, communication, and overall well-being.
