Bugoye Sub County comprises five parishes and thirty villages, with a predominantly hilly terrain that presents persistent challenges, especially during rainy seasons when flooding disrupts access to services and community mobility.

These geographical realities continue to shape both health service delivery and broader development efforts within the subcounty.

Community Engagement and Academic Partnerships

The subcounty continues to attract individuals from outside the area, particularly students from Mbarara University of Science and Technology (MUST) undertaking field placements and academic rotations.

Most recently, 15 MUST students were hosted in Bugoye for a three-week period, during which they actively participated in ongoing community activities, contributing to service delivery while gaining valuable field experience.

The stakeholder engagement was attended by the LC III Chairperson and committee members, demonstrating strong local leadership commitment to collaborative development efforts .

Planned Interventions and Collaborative Efforts

During the meeting, stakeholders discussed plans to formalize collaboration through the development of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between Bugoye Sub County leadership, the local health facility, and MUST. This agreement is expected to streamline coordination, enhance accountability, and strengthen long-term partnerships.

Key planned interventions include:

  • Skilling programs for adolescents, aimed at equipping young people with practical, income-generating skills to improve livelihoods and resilience.

  • Continued support to the health facility through provision of essential medical equipment, building on recent donations such as fetal dopplers and blood pressure machines. These efforts are intended to strengthen maternal and adolescent health services within the community

Community Appreciation and Feedback

The Bugoye Sub County leadership expressed appreciation for the continued support from partners, noting that development actors play a vital role in amplifying community priorities and addressing local needs. Particular appreciation was extended to MUST UCoBS Project 4 for the donation of a television screen, which will support health education, community mobilisation, and information dissemination efforts at the facility

Conclusion

The meeting concluded with renewed commitment from Bugoye Sub County leadership to sustain collaboration with MUST and the UCoBS Project 4 team. Leaders emphasized the importance of formalizing partnerships through an MOU to effectively address geographical challenges, empower adolescents through skills development, and further equip health facilities to improve community health and overall well-being.
